At Class People we feel it is essential that we invest in our teachers’ professional development and allow them the opportunity to keep abreast of important changes within education. As a teacher -led company we have always placed a heavy emphasis on the development and training of the teachers who work with us. We hope that this is reflected by the calibre of our team and the relationships we build with team members.

Therefore, on Saturday 15th October, a sleepy eyed bevy of teachers arrived at The George Hotel for a training seminar on the proposed Education Bill. The seminar entitled ‘Preparing for the Future’ was led by executive head and advisor Andy Mellor and looked at the proposed Education Bill and new Ofsted Framework. The course focussed upon the impending changes to our National Curriculum and the implications this will have on the way that we teach.

Whilst a bright and sunny Saturday morning may not have seemed the ideal time to tackle the new White Paper report our dedicated teachers prevailed against the temptation of a lazy breakfast in bed to learn more about these important changes. As with all of the seminars Andy has a unique way of engaging all delegates with his anecdotal and humourous style whilst still exploring and expanding upon the topic in hand.

The course placed particular emphasis on the presence of Synthetic Phonics within the new curriculum and consequently our teachers came away with a thorough understanding of how the new phonics scheme will work. The material covered has a particular importance and relevance as the new White Paper Report expects some of these curriculum changes to be implemented with immediate effect. Those who attended are now fully equipped with the knowledge required to teach according to the new framework and are fortunate to have had this early training.
