Class People are delighted to be supporting a respected Multi-Academy Trust in the Lewisham area, London, who are seeking an organised, detail-driven Finance Officer to join their central finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong financial administration experience who is looking to take the next step in their school finance career.

As a Finance Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the accurate, timely, and efficient processing of financial transactions across the Trust, supporting both central operations and local school finance activity.

🔎 Your Key Responsibilities

As a Finance Officer, you will support the Trust Finance Manager and Finance Operations Manager with:

Finance Processing & Reporting

  • Processing purchase requisitions, raising purchase orders and checking invoices

  • Posting routine data and journal entries onto the finance system

  • Managing all cash and banking transactions, including reconciliations and BACS payments

  • Preparing monthly reconciliations for bank and control accounts

  • Supporting financial monitoring and weekly payment runs

Payroll Support

  • Liaising with the outsourced payroll provider

  • Assisting with monthly payroll routines, pensions and staff expenses administration

Trips, Income & Debt Management

  • Administering financial processes for school trips, including parent payments

  • Chasing outstanding debts and supporting families with payment queries

  • Managing lettings income, issuing sales invoices and following up late payments

Financial Systems & Compliance

  • Ensuring accurate use of financial codes and recommending updates where required

  • Maintaining strong financial records in line with data protection rules

  • Supporting year-end processes including accruals, prepayments and reconciliation

Support for Staff & Stakeholders

  • Responding to finance queries from staff and suppliers

  • Advising budget holders on financial procedures and budget monitoring

  • Providing training to staff on financial processes where required


👤 Person Specification

Qualifications

  • AAT qualification or similar (desirable)

  • 5 GCSEs including English & Maths

Skills & Experience

  • Strong financial administration experience, ideally within education or a similar setting

  • Excellent numeracy, attention to detail and logical processing skills

  • Confident using finance systems, spreadsheets and Microsoft Office

  • Ability to analyse and present financial information clearly

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload

  • Effective communication and strong relationship-building skills

  • Able to maintain confidentiality at all times
