My First Day As A ?Teacher?
My first day as a ?teacher?, A day I won't forget in a hurry!
Having worked with local schools in Gloucestershire over the past 3 years I have built some outstanding relationships. These relationships have now progressed to the point where I was asked to cover an afternoon PPA session of supply with a year 6 class. Being someone who is always happy to go the extra mile for my schools and not one to turn down a challenge, of course I accepted. It was time for me to finally put myself in the shoes of my candidates and give teaching a go.
For most teachers their first day of teaching is full of excitement and nerves, it?s the start of an amazing journey one that will leave their mark on this world forever. They have been anticipating this moment for years constantly planning it. For me however, it was slightly different. I had stayed up till 11PM with my fianc? (a qualified teacher) the night before planning what I could possibly do with these kids. I take my hat off to those in the educational sector, it is a nerve racking task putting yourself in a situation like this and doing it daily must be incredibly draining. I must also thank a lot of the local teachers and schools, after posting about what I would be doing my LinkedIn was flooded with teachers who wanted to help, both ones that I work with and ones that I don?t. It really is a lovely community.
It?s the morning of the big day and the nerves remain from the night before but they have been put aside for a day of work first. Then on a sunny Thursday afternoon in February, it was my time. I whacked my gym gear on and made my way over to the school. It was an interesting experience to teach and lead a class of year 6 pupils for PE, first having them do circuit training and then later on a game I had invented. The PE session went well overall; it was a fun afternoon and one I won?t forget in a hurry. It was actually good fun teaching the children and a personal highlight has to be them all asking if I was coming back the next week. With my voice lost and the school day over I said my goodbyes to the first class I had ever taught, a day I won't forget in a hurry!
