Equal Opportunities

Schools in a democratic society must broaden the opportunities for all pupils to reach their individual potential.  In its curriculum guidance, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) refers to the importance of securing equal opportunities for pupils and OFSTED requires inspectors to take into accounts the extent to which a school is ‘socially inclusive’ and ensures equal access and opportunity for all.

Class People are committed to diversity and will promote diversity for all employees, workers and applicants. We will continuously review all aspects of recruitment to avoid unlawful discrimination. We will treat everyone equally and will not discriminate on the grounds of an individual’s “protected characteristic” under the Equality Act 2010 (the Act) which are age, disability, gender re-assignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. We will not discriminate on the grounds of an individual's membership or non-membership of a Trade Union. All staff have an obligation to respect and comply with this policy. Class People] will avoid stipulating unnecessary requirements which will exclude a higher proportion of a particular group of people and will not prescribe discriminatory requirements for a role.

Class People will not discriminate unlawfully when deciding which candidate/temporary worker is submitted for a vacancy or assignment, or in any terms of employment or terms of engagement for temporary workers. We will ensure that each candidate is assessed in accordance with the candidate’s merits, qualifications and ability to perform the relevant duties for the role. Class People will not discriminate directly or indirectly. Class People will not tolerate harassment or victimisation of any individual. Any person guilty of harassment or victimisation will have disciplinary action taken against him/her and this could ultimately lead to dismissal.

This policy also covers the treatment of those employees and workers who work on a part-time basis, Class People recognises that it is an essential part of this policy that part time employees are treated on the same terms, with no detriment, as full time employees (albeit on a pro rata basis) in matters such as rates of pay, holiday entitlement, maternity leave, parental and domestic incident leave and access to our pension scheme. Class People also recognise that part time employees must be treated the same as full time employees in relation to training and redundancy situations.

Every school and setting should have an equal opportunities policy, and this places a responsibility on you as an individual to uphold their principles.
