The Government’s call for teachers, and how Class People are helping.
In this blog, our experts discuss the Government’s call for ex teachers to come back to the profession, and how, as one of the best teaching recruitment agencies in the South West, Class People are supporting this mission.
Throughout the pandemic, Class People have been right there alongside our schools and settings doing all we can to ensure schools remain open to support their students as best as possible.
Recently, Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi requested that any
teachers not currently working in education (having retired or changed profession) put their classroom skills back to use to help cover staff shortages up and down the country.
The Education Secretary said:
How are Class People helping?
As a specialist education recruitment agency, with a reputation as one of the best teaching recruitment agencies in the South West, Class People are one of the agencies
recommended by the Government for
returning teachers to register with.
With the current trend of Covid related staff shortages expected to continue and potentially worsen in the spring term,
supply staff are urgently needed to
fill gaps as they appear in schools throughout the country.
Turning to
retired and former teachers seems a natural step to ensuring schools remain open, and that students receive continuous support throughout this time. Asked to consider odd days here and there when possible, the registration process has been altered reflecting the urgent need for qualified staff.
While the focus is still very much on
safeguarding students and
ensuring high standards of practice, accommodating those who have been out of the classroom means that, temporarily, references from schools are no longer an absolute requirement.
The returning teacher requirements are as follows:
-
Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
-
Must have prior experience working with children in a school setting.
-
Must be willing to undergo a DBS check.
-
Must have legal right to work in the UK.
These adjustments have allowed us to complete pre-placement checks more quickly, and get staff out to support schools even faster than our usual seven day turn around.
Will you join us on this mission?
As one of the Government’s recommended agencies and one of the best teaching recruitment agencies for the
South West, we have a duty to reach out to ask if you would like to
play a part in maintaining face-to-face learning for all children.
Even one day can make a difference by offering critical support for students, many of whom still have limited access or are simply unable to learn remotely.
